Natural Cork Handbags - Sustainable Fashion Accessories. Exclusive, travel friendly designs.

🌳 Is there truly a cork shortage?

No — there is not a real cork shortage. According to industry analysis, the idea of a global cork shortage is a myth. Cork oak forests in Portugal (where most cork comes from) are healthy, abundant, and sustainably harvested, making them an ideal resource for eco-friendly products like cork fashion accessories and environmentally friendly purses.

✔ Why there’s no shortage

Cork comes from the bark, not the tree — the tree stays alive. The bark regenerates every 9–10 years. Cork oak trees live about 300 years. There are enough cork trees today to supply the world’s needs for over 100 years, ensuring a sustainable supply for products such as sustainable handbags.

✔ So why do people think there’s a shortage?

The rumor started when many wineries switched to plastic corks and screw caps in the 1990s. To justify the switch, some companies suggested cork was endangered or running out — but this wasn’t true.
